What Are Regular Council Meetings?
Regular Council meetings are formal meetings of Town Council where Council exercises its full legislative and governing authority as established under the Municipal Government Act (MGA). At these meetings, Council considers and makes decisions on municipal bylaws, policies, budgets, and other matters affecting the governance and administration of the Town. Council meetings provide a public forum where Council discusses community issues, receives reports and recommendations from Administration, and considers input from residents to guide decision-making on behalf of the community.
Who Are Members of Council?
Council is made up of the Mayor and the 6 elected Town Councillors.
Where and When Does Council Meet?
Regular Council meetings are typically held in the Town Hall council chamber at 6:00 p.m. on the 4th Tuesday of each month, in accordance with Council’s approved meeting schedule. Exceptions are made in the Months of July, August, And December, where Regular Council Meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
What Are Special Council Meetings?
Special Council meetings are meetings of Town Council that are convened outside of the regular meeting schedule to address specific matters requiring timely consideration. These meetings are called in accordance with the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and Council’s procedural bylaw. Special Council meetings are limited to the business stated in the meeting notice and provide Council with an opportunity to make decisions or receive information on urgent or time-sensitive issues affecting the Town. Where applicable, these meetings also provide a public forum for residents to observe Council’s deliberations on the identified matters.
