Bear sighting

BEAR UPDATE: Conservation officers have reported to the Town that the bear has been caught and is being relocated to an area where it will not pose a risk to humans or livestock. The happy ending to this this incident however serves as an important reminder that our southern trail network and the flood plain landscape in general are lush and ideal wildlife habitat. Please stay alert when walking the trails and report any signs or sightings of large predators immediately to Alberta Fish and Wildlife

BEAR UPDATE: The conservation officers have been tracking the bear moving south away from Magrath. It's their hope that the animal continues moving south. The Town is reopening the south trail but recommends that all users be alert and exercise caution when walking. It's also highly recommended not to walk alone on the trail for the next few days. Any bear sightings should be immediately reported to 1-800-642-3800

BEAR UPDATE: The trail remains closed today. Contrary to other reports, the conservation officers have told the Town this morning that the bear has not been trapped. They will let the Town Hall know as soon as there is an update. If you spot the bear please report the sighting to 1-800-642-3800. (July 29, 2020)

UPDATE: Conservation officers have been unable to locate the bear spotted earlier in the day. The search is continuing and they ask that any resident who sees the bear call 1-800-642-3800 to report the sighting. (July 28, 2020)

TRAIL CLOSED: A bear has been spotted near the south end of Town and the golf course. Conservation officers are aware and searching for the animal. Please stay away from the Jubilee Park area, Trail, and river bottom until further notice. (July 28, 2020)
